Mental Health America of West Central Indiana strives to prevent homelessness by ensuring that safe, affordable housing is available to persons with a disability.
We collaborate with area landlords to provide housing to individuals that are homeless and disabled through our Sweet Home Terre Firma program. Eligible participants can be approved for rental assistance for permanent supportive housing programs.
Helping Break the Cycle
Since 2006 MHAWCI has housed 186 people, including 19 children, 69 chronically homeless individuals, 40 veterans, and 51 persons who have experienced domestic violence.
Comparing mental and physical health conditions, our population has experienced a 28.3% reduction in the number of conditions while in our programs. On program entry, 43.0% of clients had some kind of monthly income. For clients who have received at least one annual assessment, 67.9% have some monthly income; representing a 24.9% increase in the number of clients with monthly income. At entry, 14.1% of clients were uninsured. Among clients having been in the program long enough to receive at least one annual assessment, 91.8% have health insurance.
Of all the tenants who have left the program, 64.8% exited to positive housing destinations.
